Seminar on
Green IT – Challenges and Opportunities
The Professional Commons, IT Voice and Internet Society-HK are honorable to invite Ms. Lisa Hopkinson, co-author of a report on ‘Sustainable ICT in Further and Higher Education’ in the UK, to give a seminar on Green IT.
IT offers many opportunities for reducing carbon such as reducing travel by use of conferencing, but it also has many environmental and social impacts, not least the burgeoning energy use associated with computing. Lisa will present an overview of the main challenges and opportunities of IT in terms of carbon reduction with examples from UK universities of best practice measures to address these.
This will include examples on IT procurement, power management, data centre management and conferencing.
